Information: COVID-19

Thu, 05/07/2020 - 15:30

The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, in accordance with the restrictions imposed by the health authorities during the COVID-19 pandemic, reports that:

All events on the 2020 sports event calendar are suspended until conditions are safe to resume competitions.

The IBJJF will continue to work with governments, world health authorities and local communities in regards to travel restrictions, public transportation, hospitals and health networks, on the gathering of people and contact sports restrictions, to meet the demands of large sporting events before actively restarting the tournament season safely and legally.

The IBJJF would like to inform all athletes who had a valid IBJJF membership until the moment the calendar of events was interrupted due to the pandemic, will have their membership extended for as long as the Federation is prevented from doing events. The period from March 1, 2020 until the date when our next event is held, will add the expiration date of the membership

We are joining our efforts with many leaders in the Jiu-Jitsu community and are confident that we will overcome this challenge. Hoping that we can return to doing what we love the most as soon as possible. We hope that all of you and your family members are safe and healthy. Together, we are going through a delicate time. A test of patience and endurance, as a father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter, and friend. Those who learned the noblest values through the years of Jiu-Jitsu training will be able to show resilience, never give up, and show the capability of winning this one more fight.

The IBJJF has released this manual to help the Jiu-Jitsu community reopen their academies once it is legal to do so. This document suggests safety procedures to prevent the risk of covid-19 infection inside the academies and class types according to the level of activity and contact permitted in your region.

This document does not intend to substitute any order, measure or guideline given by the authorities in regards to the pandemic. Therefore, the reopening of the academy should only occur upon obtaining permission from the proper legal authorities.

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be able to hold the World IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship during the scheduled dates. We continue to monitor the developing situation, and will be rescheduling the tournament for a later date once it has been determined that is safe to return to normal activities. The ranking season and point requirements for the Adult Black Belt division will be re-evaluated and adjusted accordingly once we are able to open registration for the rescheduled date. We will be posting further information to the event page as soon as we have any updates.
